Ottawa Home Alarm & Security Systems

Ottawa’s 2024 Crime Severity Index of 53.8 is one of the lowest of any major Canadian city — well below both the Ontario provincial average (60.7) and the national index (77.9) — but Canada’s capital is still a city of over a million people, and a monitored home alarm system is what turns a strong area-wide statistic into protection for your specific home.

What does the 2024 crime data say about Ottawa?

Area (2024)	Crime Severity Index	Change vs. 2023	Rate per 100,000
Ottawa (CMA)	53.8	−1%	4,298
Ontario	60.7	—	4,458
Canada	77.9	−4%	5,672

Ottawa consistently ranks among the safest large cities in Canada, and the 2024 numbers back that up again. But a low city-wide average doesn’t mean every neighbourhood or every home carries the same risk — long government-employee commutes across the Greenbelt leave suburban homes empty for predictable hours, and the older core neighbourhoods (Hintonburg, Old Ottawa South) have their own share of break-and-enters. Monitored security adds a consistent layer regardless of which side of the Rideau Canal you’re on: entry sensors, motion coverage, and a 24/7 professional response the moment something trips, plus fire, flood, and CO monitoring through Ottawa’s long winters.

How does monitored home security work in Ottawa?

Your home alarm system — entryway contacts, pet-sensitive motion detection, a digital keypad, high-decibel siren, and backup battery — connects to Canadian monitoring centres that never close. If the system detects a break-in, smoke, flood, or carbon monoxide, a real person responds within moments and alerts the appropriate Ottawa-area emergency service, whether you’re home or away. “Always On” technology keeps monitored smoke and CO detection active even when the alarm isn’t armed.

Is Ottawa one of Canada’s safest cities?

Yes — Ottawa’s 2024 Crime Severity Index (53.8) is among the lowest of any major Canadian CMA, well below both the Ontario provincial average (60.7) and the national index (77.9) (Statistics Canada, table 35-10-0026-01). A strong city-wide average is good news, but it’s still an average — monitored home security protects your specific address regardless of the neighbourhood-level variation underneath that number.
